Tips for Effective Searching
Finding family members through local obituaries can be rewarding! Here's a suggested approach to help you get the best results:
Start with the Surname
Enter the surname of the deceased person. The search will include other surnames, such as maiden names or other married names where given, in the results. If you don't find what you're looking for, try initial three or four letters of a surname as THOM will bring you THOM OR THOMAS, THOMPSON OR THOMSON. For other surnames, try possible alternative spellings such as READ vs REID.
Add Given Names
If you find too many results, add the deceased person's given name or names to narrow down the search results. You can also search by nickname(s) if used in the obituary.
Include Relatives
Search for relatives' surnames and given names to find the obituary of the person you are seeking or use it to further refine your search, especially useful for common surnames.
Use Date or Range
If needed, add exact death date or date range to narrow your search.
